The biggest sugarcane plantations in the Philippines owned by big landlords are found in the province of Negros. Farm workers in the haciendas (estates) receive a daily wage of P80 - 120, which is less than half of what the law stipulates for agricultural workers in the region. Nonetheless, it remains the locals’ main source of livelihood.
